Iced Coffee

By Jiří Hubáček Leave a Comment

I got this idea for this kind of preparation last summer, gave it a try and now this is my top-of-mind Ice Coffee preparation. Weather outside, here in Central Europe, impels us to cool ourselves. However it might not seem logical at all but more healthy is cooling ourselves with a hot beverages. Just take a look at the pictures from Sahara or India. If hot tea is currently something you can’t think off why not trying this iced coffee?

The biggest advantage of this kind of preparation is it stays cool for a couple of hours. Your colleges or classmates are going to be envious, trust me. 🙂

Caffeine is without any doubt the world’s most spread stimulant – according to Wikipedia. It stimulates central nervous system and metabolism. It’s a bitter white substance named after Coffea arabica plant. Besides coffee caffeine is also present in guarana (guaranine), mate (matein), tea (thein), beans or kola nut. In conjunction with with and essences of  Theobroma cacao constituted the first Coca-Cola.

Because of caffeine’s ability of postponing fatigue and improving concentration it’s an ideal mate during exams or nights before certifications. It also fastens the heart beat, widens the artery and stimulates breathing. However overdosing creates resistance to caffeine’s effect. Caffeine is not recommended during pregnancy and breast feeding for its ability to affect child and cause insomnia. Life threatening dose for a human weighting 70kg (154lb) is about 80 espressos or 131kg (288lb). Daily coffee dose should not exceed 2 to 4 espressos. For instance one double ristretto contains 223mg/ml – for the same amount of caffeine you would have to drink 2l (4.22 pints) of Coca-Cola or eat approximately 300g (0.66lb) of dark chocolate.
